Uniform & Personal Appearance
Hair and dress codes may seem strict but they are based on ballet traditions for the best and safest training.
Ballet: Students must wear school colors for ballet (black leotard & pink tights). Hair must be pulled away from the face and pinned into a bun. NO SIDE PARTS ALLOWED. If necessary hair nets, gel, and hair spray should be used. This applies to all ballet classes including Creative Movement, Intro to Ballet & Pre-Ballet.
* All girl students will be required to purchase a ballet skirt to be used for open classes and for in-studio performances. See chart below.
Jazz/Broadway: Students must wear black leotard (no decorations of any kind, no criss cross straps, shorts or t-shirts) with black jazz pants (mandatory) (no shorts, capris, or t-shirts), black or tan* jazz shoes, black jazz slip-ons (no jazz boots or jazz tennis shoe); for girls, hair must be pulled into a ponytail or bun. Character shoes for broadway must have 1.5” heels. Tap: Students must wear a black leotard (no decorations of any kind, no criss cross straps, shorts or t-shirts) with pink tights and black capris. The hair must be pulled into a ponytail or bun.
All Classes:No jewelry is to be worn during class, including watches. Only post earrings are allowed. Parents, please be considerate of your child and make sure they come to class with proper dance clothes, shoes, and hair done appropriately. Failure to be properly dressed will result in your child not being allowed into class. Students should not be arriving or leaving in their ballet clothes without being covered with street clothing. Dance shoes must not be worn outside of the school. Dirt and debris picked up on shoes can ruin the dance floor. REMINDER: Additional shoes may be required for the performance. Dance Clothing can be found at various websites: In House Productions: All students (girls) in Creative Movement, Intro to ballet, Pre-Ballet and all Vaganova levels will be required to purchase a skirt from Curtain Call for Class (www.curtaincallforclass.com). Must have skirt by November 1st to perform in the In House Production. Items to include in your dance security kit: (These items are a must for students in Vaganova I through IV)
